The Stone Guide
At Silver Play, every piece begins with a stone. We select each gemstone by hand — examining it in natural light, studying its patterns and colour, feeling its weight. This guide is our way of sharing that knowledge with you: what each stone is, where it comes from, what makes it extraordinary, and how to look after it.
Why We Use Natural Stones
Natural gemstones carry something synthetic materials simply cannot replicate — the memory of time. Each stone was formed over thousands or millions of years through heat, pressure, and geological change. The patterns you see in a piece of Ocean Jasper, the shimmer of a Blue Opal, or the swirling greens and reds of Dragon Blood Jasper are entirely natural. No two are identical.
Because of this, slight variations in colour, pattern, and tone between the piece photographed and the one you receive are completely normal and expected. These variations are not imperfections — they are proof of authenticity.
Our Stone Collection
We work with a curated selection of natural gemstones, chosen for their visual beauty and the way they interact with sterling silver. Our collection includes Jaspers from several continents, rare Opals, grounding minerals like Pyrite and Tiger Eye, delicate stones like Mother of Pearl and Scolecite, and unusual finds like Purpurite, Nellite, and Pinolith Jasper.
Each stone in our guide has its own page where you can explore its origins, visual characteristics, metaphysical associations, and specific care instructions. Use the links below to learn more about each stone, or browse by collection to find pieces set with your favourite.
How to Use This Guide
Select any stone from the list to read its full profile. If you are considering a Silver Play piece and want to know more about the stone it features, this is the place to start. We have written each guide for someone who wants to understand what they are wearing — not just what it looks like, but what it is.
